We know you have questions about the Moab Charter School merger with Athenian Schools. We don’t have all of the answers, but we have some!
Moab Charter School’s Board of Directors voted to merge with Athenian eAcademy during their May 15th, 2025 board meeting. On May 28th, 2025 the Athenian eAcademy Board of Directors and on June 12th the Utah State Charter School Board voted in favor of the merger. There are still details to work out, but we have provided this Q&A to help address questions you may have about the merger and changes at Moab Charter School. Let us know additional questions you have and we will do our best to address them!
Q: What does the merger with Athenian eAcademy mean for local families?
A: It means greater support, more flexibility, and new learning model options—while keeping our local team, campus, and community focus.
Q: Are current staff staying on?
A: Yes, many of our current staff are returning. Familiar faces will remain a strong part of our school culture.
Q: What grades will Moab Charter School have next year?
A: Like in previous years, K-6 grade students who were on campus full-time will continue to receive in-person instruction. Despite the term "eAcademy," MCS will offer both traditional in classroom options and a blended education model. Some families may choose to use home-based learning with an “Epic Day”, a one in-person day per week, for collaborative, hands-on learning and connection, while others will spend five days a week in the classroom.
We are excited to introduce a K-8 blended education option and hope to welcome some new students through this program.
Q: Will all student instruction be online?
A: No. Families have the option of participating in the traditional or blended education programs.
Q: What is Blended Education?
A: Blended Education is a partnership between the school and parents who wish to educate their children at home and provides these students with school resources to bolster their academic success. This is a great program for homeschooling parents or parents who want a different academic approach than the traditional classroom setting for students in grades K-8.
Q: Will Blended Education students be provided with a school Chromebook?
A: Yes
Q: How does the blended education program work?
A: It’s a mix of at-home, individualized support curriculum with one on-campus day per week, known as Epic Day.
Q: What happens on Epic Day?
A: EPIC Day: Once a week, students get together to participate in fun, hands-on educational activities that focus on STEM and Social Studies/History directed by a licensed teacher. A great chance for students to socialize with peers and give parents a break.
Q: What does this merger mean for students academically?
A: Students benefit from individualized support, improved tracking of growth, and expanded intervention tools—all aligned with Utah Core Standards.
Q: Will there be changes in leadership from last year?
A: Ms. Carrie Ann is no longer with Moab Charter School, and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors. Kate Aiken will be leading the school, and we’re excited about the continued growth and positive direction ahead. Yuli George will be 2nd in charge and serve an important role in the transition. We are always here to answer questions.
Q: Will the school calendar/in session days remain the same for the 2025/2026 school year?
A: YES!
Q: Will the blended program be offering grades K–8 this fall?
A: Yes, the program will include grades K–8 for the upcoming school year.
Q: What curriculum options are available to Blended Education families?
A: There are numerous & flexible choices for curriculum.The school will provide families with both online and physical curriculum based on the students’ academic level. Parents will work with the ES to custom design a curriculum specific to each student. Athenian uses a multi-tier system of support to meet each student’s particular academic needs. Additional student support is provided for students who need assistance.
Q: How many days per week do students doing the home school method attend on campus?
A: Students attend one “EPIC Day” on campus each week, where they meet one-on-one with their Blended Ed Teacher. Additional on-campus days may be arranged based on individual student needs and learning goals.
Q: How is parent accountability managed in the blended model?
A: Parents are asked to complete a Google form once a week to report on student progress and activities. Additionally, parents meet with their student’s teacher in person once a month to review their student’s binder and discuss any questions, concerns, or needed support.
Q: What’s different now that the school is part of Athenian eAcademy?
A: We now have access to a broader network of curriculum support, administrative tools, and staff development, which helps us better serve students.

A: Our leadership team is based right here in Moab. We’re committed to keeping our school rooted in community while growing with statewide support.
